East of the Sun waved goodbye to the MED in October 2023. After competing in the amazing Barcolana in Triëste, and sailing towards Slovenia, she took a short cut on a big truck, that drove her to the less poetic village of……Zuidland! After 2 weeks of maintenance, she was ready to sail the Dutch waters. There was little rest for the boat, as we competed in the Hellevoetsluis winter-series regatta (finishing in 5th place, not bad, considering we missed one race). In the winter of 2023/2024 East of the Sun underwent some upgrades, such as extra cockpit speakers, extra navigation lights, AIS navigation, a 5G router, a genaker snuffer, and an improved backstay pulley. In the spring 2024 East of the Sun was again competing in various regatta’s, and was taken out for local sailing trips in Zeeland and Zuid Holland. But a boat like this needs to be sailed in deep & salt water. And so we did. It was a pleasure to sail her to London for a very cool city trip, passing into the western hemisphere at Greenwich, for the very first time! After London, we enjoyed the glorious mud of the East Coast rivers. Sailing back was a blast…. genaker up, and sunny weather, 25 degrees celsius. It almost felt like the MED. Almost…..
